The Service Management Qualification Scheme (SMQS) is a mission critical program supported and managed on an ongoing basis by the SMQS Advisory Committee (SMQS-AC).

The purpose of the program is to achieve the organizational objective by the definition, development, introduction and successful completion of specific strategies and their day to day activities.

What Is The SMQS For?

The SMQS is designed to do for Service Management professionals what licenses do for other professionals – namely, to warrant they understand the general principles that dictate professional behavior and they know how to apply the service management body of knowledge.

Obtaining certifications under the SMQS is a challenge and credential holders must periodically renew their certification by engaging in a reassessment process. To stay certified, the credential holder must be able to demonstrate the continued relevance of their skills and knowledge, as well as continuing to learn about new topics and technologies applicable to the credential(s) they hold.

Value And Benefits Of The SMQS

SM-S certifications provide the professionals and the organizations they serve a competitive advantage because the credential holder has demonstrated that they are properly trained to fulfill the job roles associated with the qualification scheme.

Earning a professional credential through SM-S means that one has:

  • Demonstrated the appropriate education and/or professional experience;
  • Passed a rigorous examination;
  • Agreed to abide by a professional code of conduct;
  • Committed to maintaining their active credential by meeting continuing certification requirements.

SMQS credentials are available to anyone able to provide evidence that they meet required level of education, knowledge and experience in service management.

Program Management Of The SMQS

The program has a charter providing a mandate and governance framework for Committee operations.  The Committee published plans and a status report on a regularly scheduled basis.  Further information on Committee activities is posted on the Committee Calendar.
