Committees

SM-S is an organization by and for the profession of Service Management. Unlike many non-profit organizations, the Board of Directors (BoD) is not where the action happens -- it's in the committees!! The committees are responsible for generating new ideas and the support to see them become reality.

We have two types of committees, standing and special. There are currently two standing committees, one covers the Service Management Qualification Scheme (SMQS) and the other covers the Universal Service Management Body of Knowledge (USMBOK). A committee may, depending upon their charter and specific needs, have a number of subcommittees to help divide their activities into more manageable chunks.

Those Associates who serve on committees occupy a position of special trust with regards to the operation of SM-S and must meet special requirements beyond that of a standard Associate. In addition, all committee memberships represent a formal appointment and require the approval of the BoD.

Each committee is led by a chairperson (the chair) who is directly accountable to the BoD for the operation and results they produce from their activities. The chair is entrusted to implement the SM-S standing rules for committee operations and ensuring strict adherence to their charter. In this way, we actively work to see that any time spent volunteering is time well spent.

Serving on a committee can be a rewarding way of participating in SM-S and helping to shape the future or the organization and the profession. If serving on a committee seems as though it may be of interest to and appropriate for you, please contact us to discuss openings that may fit your interests and experience.

For now, thank you for your interest in the Society.
