SMQS Advisory Committee - Home

The SMQS Advisory Committee is a standing committee of the SM-S and reports directly to the Board of Directors (BoD). This committee is responsible for engaging in any activities necessary to provide meaningful recommendations, guidance and advice to the BoD on how best to implement the SMQS so that it is widely available, efficient and effective. It is arguably the most important committee, as all of our other programs exist to ensure the success of the SMQS.

Currently, the SM-S is operating with an Interim SMQS Advisory Committee, which will continue executing its assigned duties, until such time that all vacancies on the (permanent) standing committee are filled and is capable of functioning on its own. Information about the composition of the standing committee will be published here one the final appointments are completed.

In order to ensure that there is no unreasonable outside influence on the SMQS, the volunteers who serve as members of this committee are recognized as occupying positions of special trust. Those who wish to serve in this capacity must be able to do so on an individual basis, regardless of their employment or other organizational affiliation.

While SM-S will appreciate and endorse any employer support they provide to enable committee member participation, it should be clear that the SM-S does not and will not make any provisions for organizational representation, reserve or preallocate any committee seats to vendors, partners or other organiztions.

At this time, there are no special professional requirements (e.g. past work experience, other certifications, etc.) for anyone to serve on this committee. Unless otherwise waived by the BoD, the minimum criteria for participating as a full committee member are:

  • Being an Associate in good standing;
  • Completing a SM-S Non-Disclosure Agreement;
  • Adhering to the SM-S Conflict of Interest Policy;
  • Submitting a formal application along with any supporting documentation required, as published in the official notice of vacancy.

Anyone interested in participating as a member of the SMQS Advisory Committee should contact us to advise of their interest. While all appointments to the committee are subject to the discretion and approval of the BoD, the SM-S appreciates the benefits that diversity provides and has a adopted a comprehensvie non-discrimination policy. In addition, the SM-S also strives to ensure that the background of it's committee members represent the knowledge and sepcial needs of commercial, end-user and public-sector organizations.
